The energetic, spiritual, and healing properties of minerals and precious stones should not be taken lightly. A specific crystal's ability to transform the human crystalline energy system is based on the crystal's geometrical formation, lattice structure, chemistry, and color.

According to Michael Gienger in his book Crystal Power, Crystal Healing, crystals are grouped according to their basic inner structure which can be categorized into seven distinct systems; cubic, hexagonal, trigonal, tetragonal, orthorhombic, monoclinic, and triclinic. He goes into great detail in his book about how people and their lifestyles can be linked to these particular systems. For example, the cubic lifestyle is characterized by a square structure. One who lives this lifestyle may tend to be considered extremely focused, driven, disciplined, and punctual. They would prefer to plan events and details well in advanced and not be considered spontaneous. They would also be the type to consider the consequences of their actions before reacting or responding to another.
Crystals work with our electromagnetic field and change our vibrational frequency.  Choosing the correct stone can be very important depending on your desired outcome.  I suggest you use your intuition rather than your mind when choosing a stone.  Your body will never lie to you, however, the wants and needs of one's egoic mind could get in the way of you getting what you actually need. 
Connecting with your crystals on an spiritual level is recommended if you want to get the most out of your relationship with a crystal.  Try not to get caught up in the materialism of crystals.  They are gifts from God and the mineral kingdom is meant to be valued, honored, and respected as you would any other relationship in your life.
